Everett was founded in 1890 at the mouth of the Snohomish River as a likely place to support the growing lumber trade. (Wikipedia has a good, brief history of the town.) It has remained a blue-collar town throughout all of its history. Today it is a town of great, classic old homes overlooking Port Gardner Bay, much smaller former mill workers' homes and, increasingly, commuter homes for those working in nearby Seattle. The town is becoming somewhat gentrified but prices here remain well below Seattle. We see that as one of the principal advantages for cohousing in Everett.

Everett is infamous for the Everett Massacre, an early labor revolt in which as many as 25 people were shot. The massacre took place in what is now known as the Port Gardner Neighborhood.

Milltown is the classic social history of Everett, WA.
